Ms. Claudette Austin - Dean, Education & Humanities
Welcome to the Faculty of Education and Humanities – the place that will be your home for the duration of your programme(s). We in the Faculty look forward to being your academic and professional mentors. We encourage you to communicate with us so that we may be able to address your interests and problems wherever appropriate.
The Faculty has the vision of becoming a leading role player in research and teaching in education, the arts and fine arts in the Caribbean and internationally. Our graduates will hold leading positions in academic enquiry and provide theoretical and practical guidance to Guyana in the pursuit of excellence in the progress to national development. Our mission outlines the path toward our vision, through promoting the goal of the University by rigorous research, and “…dissemination and application of knowledge in languages, social, cultural and historical studies, education, the arts and letters …”
Therefore, we envision helping you to join future successful graduates in education and humanities who can contribute meaningfully to every sphere of national development. It is our hope that you will embrace our ideals to become one of these major contributors in education, languages, history and culture or the arts. Our aspiration is that together we can work toward embracing meaningful interdisciplinary connections across traditional boundaries characteristic of our society.
You will have the opportunity to interact with our full-time faculty professionals who are committed to excellence in teaching and research, mentoring, community development and public service. In addition, you will also experience the theoretical and practical contribution of our creative professionals in art, drama, music, sculpture, oral traditions and anthropology.
We encourage you to broaden your academic and professional perspectives, challenge your assumptions and contribute to a Faculty community that enables everyone to thrive and succeed. Be assured that your right to freedom of expression and open exchange of ideas is respected and acceptable.
We hope that you will make the best use of this experience.
Ms. Claudette Austin
